Questions
How long does setup take?
Ready within minutes of payment. Your server is created automatically a few minutes after you pay, and you get an email with its address. You'll need an SSH public key when you order. Managed servers then start with a short chat about what you plan to run.
Sydney or Melbourne?
Choose when you order. Pick the city closest to most of your users; both are in Australia.
What does "managed" not cover?
We keep the operating system patched, secured, monitored and backed up, and help install your stack. Your own application code, its bugs and its data are yours. We can quote for app work separately; see app development.
What's the difference in backups?
Unmanaged servers get an automatic weekly backup of the whole server. Managed servers get daily backups, and we restore them for you. Keep your own copy of anything you can't lose.
Can I resize, or switch to managed?
Yes. Move up a size, or switch to managed, any time. Moving down a size may need a migration because disks can't shrink; we'll talk it through first.
Can I point my own domain at it?
Yes. Add an A record (and AAAA for IPv6) at your registrar or DNS host pointing at your server's address. We don't sell domains.
